Miami, Fla. - Graduate student Courtney Prenger and senior Maria Torres have been awarded College Sports Communicators Women's Basketball Academic All-District Honors for their classroom performance in the 2023-2024 season.

Courtney Prenger holds the most starts for the Panthers on the season, starting in 32 of FIU's 33 games. Prenger is pursuing a Masters Degree in Reading/Literacy Education and holds a perfect 4.0 GPA. Prenger has achieved Academic All-District honors in the past, earning 2022-2023 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team honors selected by College Sports Communicators. Prenger has also been honored to multiple All-Conference All-Academic teams, being selected to CUSA's All-Academic team this season, as well as being selected for the Big-East All-Academic team when at Xavier in the 2019-2020 academic year, and earned 2022-2023 Big-East All-Academic honors. On the season, the forward averaged 9.2 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game and achieved a team-high 48.5% field goal percentage. Prenger scored a career-high 22 points against Troy University in round two of the WNIT. 

In her third year with FIU, Maria Torres started in all 24 of her games played on the season, earning her most minutes played and scoring her most points per game in her career. Torres is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Counselor Education with a concentration on Clinical Mental Health Counseling and holds a 3.89 GPA so far in the program. This is not the first time the forward from Spain has been honored for her academic prowess, achieving 2022-2023 CSC Academic All-District and being selected for the 2022-2023 CUSA Women's Basketball All-Academic Team. On the season, Torres averaged 6.4 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, 1.2 assists per game and was ninth in CUSA in blocks per game with 0.9. She scored a career-high 16 points this season in the Panthers' win over New Mexico State.
