MIAMI - The FIU basball program dropped its Friday night matchup at home to Wofford, falling short in 14 innings, 5-4 to Wofford.
After Wofford took a 3-0 lead after three innings, FIU began to rally scoring a pair of runs in the fourth on a
Jeff Liquori solo homer, his eighth of the year. The Panthers tacked on a second run as
Matthew Corpas scored on a caught stealing. The Terriers logged a run on a sacrfice fly, before
Austin Dearing tied up the ballgame on a two-run single to right field, bringing home Liquori and
Ryne Guida.
Both teams would not score until the 14th inning when Wofford tacked on a pair of runs in the inning to eventually earn the win. The Panthers pitching shined prior, beginning with
Richie Pena firing a pair of scoreless frames, before handing the ball over to
Orlando Hernandez. The righty shut down the Wofford lineup from the eighth inning to the 11th, working four scoreless frames on just one hit and a pair of strikeouts. Hernandez has lowered his season ERA to 0.94 in 28.2 innings of work.
Bryce Greene (0-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing the eventual go-ahead runs for Wofford in 1.2 innings pitched.
Jaydon Bishop struck out a batter and recorded an out.
Logan Runde got the start for the Panthers, working five innings on just two earned runs allowed and punched out three batters.
Offensivley, Liquori led the team with a three-hit performance, his 12th multi-hit effort of the season. Guida reached base with a single, extending his on-base streak to 19 games. Dearing rang up a pair of hits with two RBis, his 8th multi-hit game.
