Baseball Secures Saturday Matinee Victory vs Wofford

Guida led the way with a three-hit performance

MIAMI - The FIU baseball program came away with a 6-3 victory Saturday afternoon vs the Wofford Terriers, tying up the series from FIU Baseball Stadium.

After Wofford took a 3-1 lead in the third, FIU railed back, scoring five unanswered runs and holding the Terriers offense that leads the nation in offense to no runs after the third. The backend of the bullpen in Jackson Ritchey and Zac Lampton combined for five scoreless innings en route to the 19th win of the season.

FIU jumped out to a 1-0 lead as freshman Samuel Fischer singled into left field to score Austin Dearing. Fischer ended the afternoon getting on base three times including a pair of hits. Wofford then tacked on three runs in the third with a pair of RBI base knocks.

The Panthers responded in the bottom half of the inning as Ryne Guida had runners second and third, lacing a double into the right centerfield gap to score both. Guida continues his hot streak, extending his on-base streak to 20 games.

In the fourth, FIU got back their lead when Nick Pitelli hit a two-run homer out to right field for his second home run of his 2024 campaign, making it 5-3.

Guida added an insurance run in the seventh with his second double of the afternoon into left center to score Armando Becerra. The senior went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a pair of doubles, leading the team in 2Bs with 11. In addition, the South Florida native notched his fourth three-hit game of the season.

Ritchey and Lampton shined out the pen as Ritchey earned the win, allowing no runs in two innings with a pair of strikeouts. Lampton closed it out in the last three innings on just one hit and three strikeouts for his first save of the season.

Joel Pineiro made his ninth start of the season for FIU, throwing four innings of work, giving up three earned runs and struck out three.
