MIAMI – The FIU baseball dropped Saturday night's contest, losing 5-2 in 11 innings to the Dallas Baptist Patriots from FIU Baseball Stadium.
Both teams were tied up into the 11
th before Dallas Baptist scored four runs in the inning on four hits to earn the series victory over FIU. It marks the third straight weekend series with an extra-inning affair for the Panthers.
FIU trailed 1-0 heading into the seventh before eventually tying up the ballgame on a pinch-hit RBI single off the bat of
Hector Candelas, scoring
Austin Dearing.
Dallas Baptist took the lead on a solo shot from Miguel Santos in the second, yet the pitching was the key storyline for both sides.
On the mound for FIU,
Joel Pineiro made his 11
th start and shined. He threw six innings of work, allowing just one earned run on just three hits and struck out four batters.
David Eckaus held the potent Dallas Baptist offense for the seventh and eighth on two shutout innings and striking out four.
Orlando Hernandez (2-1) was tagged with the loss, posting three innings on the mound with three hits allowed and four punchouts.
Chase Engelhard recorded the Panthers second run of the ballgame in the 11
th on a solo homer, marking his second straight game with a multi-hit performance. In addition, FIU outhit Dallas Baptist 7-6 on Saturday.
Ryne Guida extended his team-leading on-base streak to 27 games with a pair of hits on the night including securing his 14
th double of the season in the first inning.

FIU looks to salvage the series against the Patriots on Sunday, April 28 for a noon first pitch from Miami.
