LEXINGTON, Kentucky (May 23, 2014) - The FIU track and field program will once again see itself represented at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, with Michaelle Valentin and Christiana Ellina qualifying on day two of the NCAA East Preliminaries in Lexington, Kentucky on Thursday.

Valentin qualified for her second consecutive NCAA Outdoor appearance with a throw of 61.45m in the hammer, a tenth-place mark with the top 12 advancing.

RESULTS

Ellina earned her debut appearance at nationals with a throw of 50.86m on her third and final attempt, taking ninth-place with the effort.

"We're proud of Michaelle and Christiana's efforts and this is incredibly deserved for the pair of them," said FIU head coach Ryan Heberling. "They have continued to put in the work to see a result like this."

FIU also was represented in the javelin by Hannah Jansen and Selena Calix, who placed 33rd and 35th, respectively.

Nicole Janse Van Rensburg and Luciana Gomez-Iriondo will compete Friday in the pole vault, with weather postponing the event to tomorrow.
