EL PASO, Texas (May 9, 2024) - The FIU track and field program is set to compete at the 2024 Conference USA Track and Field Championships, hosted by UTEP in El Paso, Texas.

Action is scheduled to begin Friday at 9:30 AM with the 100m of the men's decathlon.
FIU enters the championships coming off a very successful regular season. On the women's side,
Nicole Janse Van Rensburg enters as the top seed in the pole vault at 4.26m, while teammate Luciana Gomez-Iriondo is seeded fourth.
Michaelle Valentin holds the top mark in the discus in the league this season and will be looking to add another medal to her collectionk while
Qua'liyyah Taylor also looks to make the podium, seeded fourth.
Christiana Ellina has the second best throw in the javelin this season, while in the distance events,
Valerie Lastra enters with the fourth best mark in the 800 and 1500.
Fabiola Declet will also once again look to make the podium in the heptathlon.
For the men,
Alex Gabossy enters with the second best mark in the high jump this season, while
Ethan Riley sports the #2 mark in the pole vault.
Blake Orr will look to improve on his fifth place finish in the javelin last year, coming in ranked second in CUSA. School record-holder
Devin Mannings will look to make the podium in the discus, seeded third.
"We're entering the best time of the year," said head coach
Ryan Heberling. "These are the kind of meets you really want to perform, and for some of our athletes, it's hopefully the start of their postseason push to Eugene."
