MIAMI – The FIU men's soccer program dropped its season opener Thursday night, losing to the Seton Hall Pirates by a 1-0 decision from Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Seton Hall scored the eventual game-winner in the 59
th minute on a cross to take secure the road victory.
The Panthers and Pirates combined for 22 shots, including 12 shots on goal. Forwards
Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro and
Eduardo Mustre each logged a pair of shots on the night and played 78 minutes each Thursday night.
In net, goalie
Nigel Van Haveren made his Panthers debut posting seven saves between the pipes including five saves in the second half alone. It marks the most saves since March 13, 2021 when Johan Peñaranda made 14 saves in a victory vs Marshall.
Four players played all 90 minutes on the pitch including defenders

Nicolas Villalobos.
