SO FAR THIS SEASON
FIU is 3-2 on the young season thus far, garnering winning results against FGCU for the first time since the 2010 season, and Florida Atlantic for the first time since the 2011 season. Their third victory came against another Florida team in Jacksonville in a 3-0 result.
Senior Nikole Solis is the leading goal scorer for the Panthers and tied for first in Conference USA with three goals in five games. Montelene Dymond is credited with two on the year thus far, while first year Antonella Solari, junior Ashly Martinez and senior Noemi Paquin each have one.
THE RETURNERS
FIU welcomes back nine seniors this season, including First Team All-CUSA selection Noemi Paquin, Second Team selections Reagan Bridges, Camille Sahirul and Nikole Solis, and Third Team selection Delinda Sehlin.
Solis was the leading scorer for the Panthers in 2023 with 10 goals, and led CUSA in points with 23, while Paquin was eighth in CUSA in points last season with five goals and five assists.
SCOUTING THE 'CANES
Miami (1-2-1) has had a rocky start to the 2024 campaign, losing matches to North Florida and Princeton, and tying with Florida Atlantic. Their lone win of the young season came in their most recent match against SEC opponent, Missouri, 2-1.
The Hurricanes were ranked 16th in the ACC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, with no players selected to the preseason all-conference team. Their leading goal scorer on the season is first year and Boca Raton native, Giovana Canali, who has two goals thus far.
Last season, FIU beat Miami for the first time since the 2016 season. Nikole Solis scored the deciding goal on a penalty kick in the 88th minute. The Panthers played lockdown defense in the match, holding Miami to just five shots and one shot on goal in the entire 90 minutes played. FIU will look to beat the Hurricanes in consecutive years for the first time in program history.
