LYNCHBURG, Va. – The FIU volleyball program opened the weekend on a high note, picking up a four-set victory over Liberty on Friday evening in Conference USA action.
FIU (13-9, 7-2 CUSA) extended its conference win streak to five and earned its fifth victory in the last six matches. The Panthers took the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-20, before Liberty answered with a 25-20 win in the third. FIU closed out the match with a 25-22 decision in the fourth to secure the road win.
Sophomore
Jillian Huckabey paced the Panthers' attack with 16 kills and 15 digs, recording her fourth double-double of the season and second consecutive performance with double figures in both categories.
Freshman
Rebekah Pfefferkorn continued her strong debut campaign with 14 kills, four digs, and three service aces — marking her sixth match this year with double-digit kills. Graduate student
Sofie Vogel added 11 kills and five blocks, while senior middle blocker
Magda Stambrowska controlled the net with eight blocks and seven kills.
Setter
Savannah Cook directed the offense with a team-high 45 assists and eight digs, coming off a milestone performance earlier this week in which she surpassed 3,000 career assists.
Defensively, libero
Mandi Morioka anchored the back row with a team-best 17 digs as FIU secured its seventh Conference USA win and continued its best start under fourth-year head coach
Cristina Robertson.
