KENNESAW, Ga. – The FIU volleyball program dropped a hard-fought five-set match to Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon from Vystar Arena.
FIU (8-8, 2-2 CUSA) came out strong, taking the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-20 before the Owls rallied to even the match with 25-20 and 25-22 victories, forcing a decisive fifth set. Kennesaw State pulled away late in the final frame, taking it 15-9 to close out the weekend series.
Several Panthers delivered standout performances, led by senior
Kira Givans, who posted a career-high 24 kills—her ninth double-digit effort of the season and third straight match reaching double figures. Sophomore
Jillian Huckabey notched a season-best 18 kills, adding nine digs and two service aces in another strong showing.
Senior
Magda Stambrowska turned in her best performance of the year with 11 kills and four blocks, while
Emma Beretich contributed four blocks at the net.
Setter
Savannah Cook had a stellar outing with 44 assists and 10 digs, marking her fifth double-double of the season. She also led the team with a career-high six blocks.
Senior libero
Mandi Morioka anchored the defense once again, recording 24 digs along with nine assists.
UP NEXT
FIU continues the conference road-swing, taking on the Sam Houston Bearkats on Oct. 10 - Oct. 11. Both matches inside the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum will be streamed live on ESPN+.
