Volleyball's Savannah Cook and Kira Givans Named to CUSA All-Academic Team

Cook holds a 3.82 GPA; Givans has a 3.80 GPA

MIAMI – FIU volleyball's Savannah Cook and Kira Givans have been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Friday afternoon.
 
Cook, a senior psychology major boasting a 3.82 GPA, has delivered an outstanding final season in the Blue & Gold. The Wilmington, North Carolina, native leads FIU with 890 assists and ranks first in Conference USA with 10.11 assists per set. Her 558 assists in league play also lead the conference.
 
The veteran setter has recorded 11 matches this season with 40 or more assists and eight double-doubles with double-digit assists and digs. Cook set a new career high with 59 assists in a four-set win at Liberty on Oct. 25—also setting a new Liberty Arena record. She was named Conference USA Setter of the Week on Sept. 29.
 
Givans, also a senior majoring in psychology with a minor in criminal justice (3.80 GPA), has been a consistent offensive force for the Panthers. She leads FIU with 344 kills and ranks third in Conference USA with 3.55 kills per set. Her 194 kills in league play also rank third among all conference players.
 
The veteran outside hitter has logged 17 matches with double-digit kills, including three performances with 20 or more. Givans set a career high with 24 kills at Kennesaw State on Oct. 4 and was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 13.
