ORLANDO, Fla. — FIU women's basketball (1-2) was defeated on the road by UCF (2-1) on Tuesday morning, 79-61.
The Panthers kept it close through the first half, scoring 13 points to the Knights' 16 in the first quarter, and ended the second frame down 32-27 heading into halftime. UCF piled on the points in the final two quarters, out-scoring the Panthers 47-34 in the final 20 minutes.
Senior Parris Atkins led the charge with a season-high 20 points, going 7-17 and a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line. Also a stout defender, the guard added on three steals to round out her stat-sheet. Junior Rhema Collins was FIU's second-highest scorer, ending with 14 points and seven rebounds, adding on one steal as well.
Claudia Marina, playing 36 minutes, finished with 12 points scored and five rebounds. The sophomore has had double-digit performances in two of the Panthers' first three contests, already surpassing her total of one game last season with double-digit points scored.
As a team, the Panthers bench out-scored the Knights', putting up 34 points to UCF's 26. FIU also outlasted the Knights in steals in the game, taking away four steals to UCF's four.

The Panthers will hit the road again when they travel up to Jacksonville for a contest against the Dolphins on Saturday, November 22 at 2 p.m.
