Baseball Falls to Bucknell in Late-Inning Heartbreaker

West adds with two-homer game

MIAMI – The FIU baseball team suffered an 8-6 setback against Bucknell on Friday night at FIU Baseball Stadium.

The Panthers (13-7) held a 4-1 lead heading into the ninth inning before the Bison mounted a late comeback.

Senior Brylan West showcased his power at the plate, recording his second multi-home run game of the season and notching his fifth extra-base hit in his last four games.

After Bucknell took an early 1-0 lead on a wild pitch, West responded in the bottom half of the inning with a leadoff home run to tie the game.

West continued his hot streak in the third inning. Following a Kareh Valentin single, he launched a two-run homer, a 117-mph shot off the bat, to give FIU a 3-1 advantage. It marked West's third career multi-home run game and his second of the season, having previously homered twice against Florida Atlantic on March 9.

Valentin added to FIU's lead in the fourth, delivering an RBI single to drive in Javier Crespo and push the Panthers' advantage to 4-1.

On the mound, Easton Marks delivered another strong performance, allowing just one earned run over 5.1 innings while striking out seven and surrendering only three hits. It marked his third consecutive start of at least five innings.

David Eckaus was dominant in relief, extending his scoreless innings streak to 10.2 innings. He tossed 2.1 perfect frames, allowing no hits and no runs. Kevin Martin took home the loss.

Despite the late-inning loss, West led the offensive charge with four hits and three RBIs. Crespo recorded his second three-hit game of the season, while Valentin added two hits of his own.
