MIAMI – No. 20 FIU completes the East Meets West Invite at ATX Beach in Austin, Texas with an 0-4 record.
Day One
FIU started off the tournament against No. 2 LMU, dropping the match, 5-0.
Later in the day, FIU faced off against No. 11 Arizona State, showing fight in a 3-2 loss to the Sun Devils. Junior Kendra Brown and senior Zoe Cahill won the Panthers' first match in three sets on court four, winning set one, 21-18, before dropping set two and clawing to a 15-13 win in set three to claim the flight. Sophomore Katarina Drozd and freshman Brianna Luoma secured the win on court three in straight sets, winning both in 22-20 fashion to round out the meet's first day for FIU.
Day Two
The Panthers continued their diligence into day two against another ranked team in No. 9 Cal, dropping the meeting, 3-2. Kendra Brown and Zoe Cahill continued their winning ways on court four, taking the flight in straight sets, 21-16 and 21-18 for the pair's tenth win of the season, second on the team. The Panthers' most successful pair in Kiki Drozd and Brianna Luoma secured their 13th win of the season, and their second win on court two. The duo won in three sets, starting with a 21-15 victory in set one before dropping set two, and fighting to a victory in set three, 15-8.
FIU dropped their last matchup of the meet in another close 3-2 loss, this time to No. 13 Grand Canyon. FIU found victories on courts one and two, starting on court one with senior Sofie Vogel and sophomore Ella Gray. The pair took flight one in straight sets, 21-16 and 21-13 before Kiki Drozd and Brianna Luoma took flight two in straight sets as well, 21-15 and 21-14.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will have a small break before hosting the FIU Pompano Invite, where FIU will welcome Palm Beach State and Tulane on day one, and play another matchup against Tulane along with FGCU on day two.
