Neil Strikes Early, Men's Soccer Settle for Draw with Creighton

Scott Neil logged his first goal as a Panther

MIAMI – The FIU men's soccer program battled to a 1-1 draw with Creighton on Sunday evening at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium.

The Panthers struck first in the 10th minute when Scott Neil buried a shot into the top center of the net for his first goal of the season. The Bluejays would equalize in the second half, and the match ended level at 1-1.

Neil has made a fantastic start to his Panther career. Following a three-assist performance in FIU's 4-1 season-opening win over Omaha on Thursday, Aug. 21, the Kilmarnock, Scotland, native added his first goal in the Blue & Gold on Sunday night.

The match proved to be a physical battle, as both teams combined for three red cards — including two against the Panthers, issued to Tibo Gobet and Owen Travis in the second half. Creighton capitalized shortly after, netting the equalizer in the 62nd minute with a right-footed strike.

FIU controlled much of the first half, outshooting Creighton 9-3, but the Bluejays turned the tide after the break, finishing with an 11-10 edge in total shots. Pasquale Capriati paced the Panthers with three attempts, while Neil and Eduardo Mustre each registered two.

In goal, Nigel Van Haveren recorded a season-high three saves — including a pair in the second half — to help the Panthers secure their first draw of the 2025 campaign.
