RALEIGH, N.C. – The FIU men's soccer program battled hard but came up short, falling 2-0 to No. 8 NC State on Friday night at the Dail Soccer Complex.
The Panthers held the nationally-ranked Wolfpack scoreless through the opening half behind a career performance from goalkeeper
Nigel Van Haveren, who recorded eight first-half saves. Van Haveren finished the night with 11 saves, marking the most by a Panther since Johan Peñaranda's 14 stops against Marshall on March 13, 2021.
FIU continued to press into the second half, keeping the Wolfpack off the board until a penalty kick broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. NC State added its second goal in the 77th minute to seal the result.
Offensively, Joao Domingues and
Scott Neil each registered a shot on target for the Panthers. Defensively,
David Boccuzzo,
Mathys Lefebvre,
Alfonso Gilleard Soriano and
Nicolas Villalobos anchored the backline, playing the full 90 minutes.
