MIAMI – FIU Women's Soccer (2-1-2) recorded its second draw of the season in a 0-0 result at home against Florida Gulf Coast University (2-1-1).
In a match heavily impacted by weather, both teams played gritty, determined soccer for the full 90 minutes, refusing to let the rain affect their performance.
FIU created the majority of chances, recording 10 shots in both halves for a total of 20. The Panthers' best opportunity came in the first half when a foul by FGCU in the box awarded FIU a penalty kick. However, Eagles goalkeeper Madara Matrevica came up with a crucial save to keep the match scoreless. Matrevica had a good performance, tallying six saves and holding off a relentless FIU attack.
On the other end, the FIU defense was dominant, allowing just four shots, only two of which were on goal, marking the fewest allowed by the Panthers this season. Goalkeeper Valery Restrepo contributed with two saves, securing her first clean sheet of the year.
Despite the pressure and numerous opportunities, FIU couldn't find the back of the net. Nine different Panthers registered shots, led by freshman Roxy Brewer with four (one on goal), redshirt senior Hanako Fujii with three (two on goal), and junior Montlene Dymond with three (one on goal). Four other Panthers each added two shots.
Ultimately, neither side could break the deadlock, and the match concluded in a hard-fought 0-0 draw.
