Volleyball Set for Halloweekend Series with RV Western Kentucky

FIU on a four-game winning streak, Panthers have not taken down Tops since 2009

10/28/2026 2:22:00 PM

MIAMI– FIU volleyball (14-9, 5-5 CUSA), owners of a four-game winning streak, are back in the 305 for a Halloweekend battle with RV Western Kentucky (16-8, 10-0), who leads the conference.

Opening Serve

FIU comes home to host powerhouse Western Kentucky - a team they haven't beaten since 2009 and lost to in last year's CUSA Championship. The Panthers took down Jax State twice on the road over the weekend, extending their winning streak to four games.

FIU recorded 28 aces in the two games, including a season-high 19 against the Gamecocks on Friday night, their most in a game since 2001 and the fifth-most in a game in program history.

Friday will be FIU's Volloween match, where the first 100 fans will get an FIU Halloween Candy Bag and candy will be distributed to younger fans. Saturday is youth day, where the first 200 fans will receive an FIU stress ball.

Matchup History
- In 56 all-time meetings, one of the most frequent opponents in FIU history, WKU has had the massive advantage, winning 48 of 56 meetings and 23 of 25 in Miami.
- The teams did not meet in 2025 until the conference finals, with WKU outlasting FIU in a five-set thriller in Miami.
- FIU's last win in the series was Nov. 6, 2009, a 29-game losing streak, and the last win in Miami was Oct. 2, 2009.

Notable Storylines
- Jillian Huckabey recorded 12 aces in the two games over the weekend, and became the first Panther EVER to record 10 aces in a game, nearly breaking the program record with 7 in an 11-0 run during the third set Friday night. She was the only player in all of volleyball to record 10 or more aces on Oct. 23, and broke the program record of 8, which had been done three times before, most recently by Nirvana Kos in 2001.
- On top of that performance, FIU is second in CUSA and seventh in the nation with 172 aces, only one behind WKU in the conference.
- Mariana Silva had a career-high 26 assists on Saturday at Jax State.
- Lana Sesar had quite the efficient match against the Gamecocks on Saturday, recording 11 kills and hitting .409 - her 13th double-digit kill game in her rookie season.
- Teodora Skocajic had an even more efficient match on Saturday, slamming 10 kills and hitting .692. She recorded her second double figure kill game of the season.
