DALLAS, Texas - Women's basketball's Parris Atkins wins her first career CUSA Player of the Week for the period ending February 22, conference officials announced Monday afternoon.
The Arkansas native has been one of the best players in all of Conference USA this season, continuing her stellar year with victories against Delaware and Liberty in an undefeated weekend for the Panthers. The guard averaged 21 points, six rebounds, 4 assists and two steals in the two games FIU played last weekend.
Atkins started off the week with her first career double-double, putting up 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the victory over Delaware. The 10 steals proved to be a career-high for Atkins, surpassing her previous record of nine.
The FIU standout added on three assists and one steal, while going 6-8 from the free-throw line to round out her performance in game one of the weekend.
The senior native followed up the performance with a senior day to remember against Liberty, scoring a game-high 25 points on 50% shooting, including 8-9 from the free-throw line and 3-5 from three. Atkins added on two rebounds, five assists and three steals to finish the weekend on a high note.
The honor marks the first for the guard over the two seasons Parris Atkins' has been with the Panthers, and is the fourth CUSA Player of the Week selection FIU has received this season.
