Baseball Falls to Stony Brook Friday Night

Ildefonso extended his hitting streak to 11 games

MIAMI – The FIU baseball program dropped its series opener to Stony Brook, 11-1, in seven innings Friday evening at FIU Baseball Stadium.
 
FIU (6-5) fell behind early, surrendering an RBI groundout in the first inning before the Seawolves broke the game open with five runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead.
 
Stony Brook added an RBI single in the third inning and continued to extend its advantage with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to make it 11-0.
 
The Panthers broke through in the seventh, scoring their lone run on an RBI groundout to avoid the shutout, but were unable to mount a comeback in the 11-1 final.
 
On the mound, Jeremy Urena (0-1) took the loss after allowing six earned runs over four innings while striking out two. Jordan Vargas tossed one inning with two strikeouts. Brennan Confreda and Taggert Cameron combined for two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out four.
 
Offensively, Samuel Fischer recorded a double, while Andrew Ildefonso extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Preston Leon notched his first hit as a Panther.

UP NEXT
FIU prepares for game two of the series on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m.. It will be streamed live on ESPN+ from FIU Baseball Stadium.
