Beach Volleyball Goes 3-1 at the Eagle Invitational

The Panthers dropped their first match of the meet, before winning the next three in a row

FT. MYERS, Fla. - Beach volleyball finishes the Eagles Invitational with a 3-1 record, going 1-1 on day one before winning both matches on day two.

The Panthers started the meet against the host-school FGCU, dropping the contest 4-1. FIU's top pair in Katarina Drozd and Brianna Luoma won the only point for the Panthers, winning court one in three sets (21-19, 14-21 and 15-11).

 

FIU bounced back in a big way in their second match of day one, cruising by Jacksonville, 5-0. Madalyn Wade and Hailey Prodan started the winning on court five in straight sets, 21-16 and 21-14, before Nikelle Lander and Lauren Coady took court four in three sets (21-18, 21-23 and 15-13). Isabella Pereira and Kendra Brown clinched the match on court three in two 21-19 sets, while Hanna Gubik and Nicole Robison finished their match on court two in straight sets, 21-14 and 26-24. The Panthers' number one pair in Katarina Drozd and Brianna Luoma finished the dual and the sweep one court one, 21-15 and 21-18.

 

Day two started against Conference USA opponent, Sam Houston. FIU took down the Bearkats in a 5-0 sweep. A pair of freshmen in Nikelle Lander and Elizabeth Nye dominated court four, 21-9 and 21-8, while Madalyn Wade and Hailey Prodan won court five in two 21-15 sets. Katarina Drozd and Brianna Luoma won court one 21-13 and 21-19, with Isabella Pereira and Kendra Brown winning once again on court three, 21-11 and 21-9. Hanna Gubik and Nicole Robison finished the sweep on court two in three sets, dropping set one before winning the next two. (20-22, 21-18 and 15-10).

 

FIU finished off the meet with the Panthers' second win of the season over Palm Beach State College, this one coming in a 4-1 result. Madalyn Wade and Hailey Prodan took court five in straight sets (25-23, 21-12) before Isabella Pereira and Kendra Brown did the same on court three (21-16, 21-15). Hanna Gubik and Nicole Robison won court two 21-13 and 21-17, before Katarina Drozd and Brianna Luoma completed off the meet for FIU on court one in straight sets, 21-12 and 21-17.

UP NEXT

FIU will be back home for senior day, welcoming State College of Florida for a one-match dual on Saturday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m. at the FIU Beach Volleyball Courts.
