NEWARK, Del. – FIU's baseball program fell, 8-3, to the Delaware Blue Hens Saturday evening at Bob Hannah Stadium in Conference USA (CUSA) action.
FIU (15-31, 6-17 CUSA) fell behind early as Delaware plated three runs in the first inning and added two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead, ultimately securing the series victory.
The Panthers got on the board in the fourth inning as
Samuel Fischer worked a walk and
Aidan Cohall reached on a fielder's choice before
Enrique Alvarez Jr. delivered an RBI single into left-center field to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Delaware answered with a run in the sixth on an infield RBI single to extend its lead. FIU responded in the seventh when, with
Caden Sammler aboard,
Hector Candelas launched a two-run homer to right field, his first of the season, to trim the deficit to 6-3.
The Blue Hens added two insurance runs in the eighth to seal the 8-3 win.
On the mound,
Julian Mlodzinski made his team-leading 11th start of the season, allowing five earned runs over 2.2 innings.
George Adams was strong in relief, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out seven.
Rene Lastres allowed two runs, while
Tracen Cameron worked a scoreless eighth inning.
Offensively, FIU recorded seven hits, highlighted by multi-hit efforts from Alvarez Jr. and Candelas.
Andrew Ildefonso added a single, marking the 100th hit of his career. Cohall reached base twice with a single and a walk, while
Cooper Rasmussen added a double. Fischer reached base via walk.
