IRVING, Texas (Nov. 4, 2015) – FIU juniors
Sophia Trujillo and
Ellen Crist have been recognized by Conference USA for their academic achievements, earning all-academic honors the league announced on Wednesday.
Trujillo, who has posted a 4.0 GPA in sports and fitness studies, earned first-team honors. The 2014-15 C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient finished 2015 with 23 saves and a goals-against average of 1.91. The Miami native recorded one shutout on the year and, along with teammate
Nevena Stojakovic, recorded two combined shutouts. She picked up her first win of the season versus Miami, making four saves and recorded the clean sheet versus LA Tech with a 2-0 result.
Crist earned second-team recognition with a 3.88 GPA in civil engineering. A two-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal winner (2013-14 & 2014-15), Crist appeared in 19 games for the Panthers, starting in 13. The St. John's, Fla., product finished the year with four goals and one assists for nine points. Her nine total points ranked No. 3 on the team, while her four goals were tied for the team lead. Crist notched one game-winner on the year after scoring a pair of goals in FIU's 2-0 win over North Florida. Averaging 1.53 shots-per-game, Crist ended the year with a 58.6 shots-on-goal percentage.
