Post Game Quotes Florida International vs. Louisiana Lafayette

Florida International Head Coach Mario Cristobal

Opening Statement:

Well obviously it was a good strong effort. We were trying, but they are a good, strong rushing football team, we knew that coming in. We tried. We knew we had to stop them to win this football game, but they did do a great job. They did a much better job than we did. We had a chance toward the end of the game to convert a fourth down but we hung in there a little too long and the protection broke down and certainly the game got away from us then.

We did a lot better job in running the spread stuff that we were trying to do. A couple of our receivers were good early, dropped some balls later on in the game. Our kicking game, we need to find a way to keep improving. We had a two point conversation to put us back in a pretty reasonable situation, but overall a loss is a loss and you have to take it that way. You have to let it burn, set aside until you see improvement.”

How did Lafayette's hurry up offense effect the defense?

“Them being physical actually was more effective than the hurry up. As a team that plays against them, you still have your calls, and as your substituting they are substituting as well. They did a better job at the line of scrimmage, they really did at the point of attack. They opened up some holes, they controlled the line of scrimmage, and we did create a little penetration, as when we did have some success, but it certainly wasn't enough, and certainly when you consider running the football like that you tend to wear down a defense.”

FIU LB Scott Bryant

How did the Hurry up offense affect you guys?

It takes tolls on many defenses. You have to prepare for it all week, and you have to come with the mentality of the hurry up offense, and they are going to run a good scheme to catch you off guard. That's why you always have to be in position, and have your plays ready. Know your assignments and just come out and play football.

Louisiana-Lafayette Quarterback Connor Morel

On the win....

“It feels great. I know the whole team is behind me. I know the coaches are behind me. Mike [Desormeaux] has been doing his job. He's been doing well, and its unfortunate he got hurt. We still have to step it up and play the game.”

On being prepared..

“I like to think I'm always ready for any situation. That's my mentality. Just be prepared for whatever happens. Everything happens for a reason.”

How important was it for you, second and third series you had, you go down and score?

“It was huge. We kept our momentum throughout the whole game. The defense showed up and stopped them on their last drive. No telling what can happen.”
