Panthers Take Care of Hawks 3-1

MIAMI - The FIU men's soccer team (7-6) defeated Hartwick College (2-11-1) by a score of 3-1 Friday evening at the FIU Soccer Stadium.

The Panthers got on the board first in the eighth minute of the match when Joseph Dawkins took an open shot from 22 yards out and buried it into the corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

After coming out of the half with a 1-0 advantage, the Panthers would give up a goal to the Hawks, Evan Doan, as he knotted the match up a 1-1 in the 75th minute.

FIU would answer in the 80th minute when Michael Muehseler scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Christopher Garces and Dawkins were credited with the assists.

Three minutes later, the Panthers would add an insurance goal when freshman Nicolas Rodriguez-Fraile faked out the defender at midfield, then ran down the sideline and took the ball to the goal where he chipped the ball over the goalie for his fifth score of the season.

The Panthers will return to conference action when they hit the road to take on the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, Ky. on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Noon. The Panthers trail the Wildcats by two points in the Conference USA standings.
