The 49th ranked FIU tennis team (7-5) beat Middle Tennessee (5-3) 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the FIU Tennis Courts.
Liset Britto and Priscilla Castillo led the way for the Golden Panthers, winning their doubles match 8-0 over Natalia Araya and Marietta Bigus and winning their individual matches in straight sets. Britto beat Araya 6-4, 6-1 and Castillo beat Anna Djananova 6-4, 6-4. FIU also picked up a win in the No.2 doubles as Chrissy Seredni and Magali Holt bested Djananova and Taylor Coffee 8-3 to earn the point for FIU.
In singles competition, Seredeni beat Carla Nava in a thrilling 6-2, 6-7 (3), 10-5 match. At the No.3 spot, Maria Spenceley took set one against Yuri Nomoto by the score of 6-2, but then dropped the second 4-6. However, Spenceley bounced back nicely, taking the third 6-0.
The Golden Panthers will be back on the courts on Sunday morning when they face the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana at 10 a.m.
