Last Time Out
The FIU men's basketball team honored its five seniors with an 83-76 overtime win over the Troy Trojans on Saturday, Feb. 26, at U.S. Century Bank Arena. Seniors Anthony Anderson, Jr., Phil Gary, Jr., Marvin Roberts, Tremayne Russell and Stephon Weaver appeared in their final home game as members of the FIU Panthers and came away with the team's second-straight win over the Trojans.

"First of all, I'm happy for the seniors that they end on a win," Head Coach Isiah Thomas said. "I'm really proud that all the seniors that were out on the floor, they will be graduating so that's something that we are extremely proud of. I was happy for Marvin (Roberts) that his last game here he finally got his offense back, played well. I thought it was a total team effort and I was just really happy that the guys fought and scratched out a win."

The Panthers (10-18, 5-11 Sun Belt Conference) were led by Roberts, who finished the night with a season-high 26 points and eight rebounds. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native converted 9-of-15 shooting from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. With his 26 points, Roberts increased his career points total to 774, moving the 6-foot-5 guard to No. 14 on FIU's all-time scoring list. It was also Roberts' ninth-career 20-point game and third of the season.

Junior Jeremy Allen posted 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including back-to-back treys in overtime to help seal FIU's 10th win of the year. The Detroit, Mich., native went 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and has now converted 19-straight free-throws, tying the FIU record held by Weaver. Also scoring 16 points was junior DeJuan Wright, who notched double-figures for the 12th-straight contest. Wright finished the night with a team-high nine rebounds and converted 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.

FIU shot 40.4 percent from the floor and was 5-of-22 from beyond the arc. The Panthers made 32-of-41 shots from the free-throw line, marking the 12th time the Panthers have shot 70.0 percent-or-better from the line. FIU out-rebounded the Trojans, 48-45, but committed 18 turnovers.

"You look back over our last 10-11 games, if we shoot the ball well from the foul line, it's a totally different season for us," Thomas said. "Hopefully we've learned and we're doing the small things. We rebounded the ball well and we made our free throws and we tried to limit our turnovers but we had some that were kind of careless but for the most part, that's where you win basketball games at - you've got to rebounds, you've got to convert from the foul line, and you can't turn it over."

The Trojans shot 35.5 percent from the floor and 31.1 percent from beyond the arc on the night. Troy attempted 45 treys, converting 14. The Trojans had three players in double-figures: Vernon Taylor (18 points), Travis Lee (18 points) and Regis Huddleston (19 points).

The win marked FIU's first-ever season-series sweep of the Trojans and improved the Panthers to 7-5 all-time versus Troy. With the victory, FIU closed out the 2010-2011 season with a winning record at home (8-7) for the 16th time in U.S. Century Bank Arena's 26-year history.
