FIU Sweeps at Second Straight Pat Bradley Invitational

SARASOTA, FLA. (FIUSports.com) – FIU continued its dominance of the field at the 35th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational on the final day shooting a third-round record-low 286 (-2) en route to the program's second straight team title and eighth overall since the tournament began in 1977.

FIU finished the 56 hole-invitational, held on the Cypress Links course at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club near Sarasota, with a 12-over (876).  FIU's 876 ties for the second-lowest team total in the history of the event and was 26 strokes ahead of tournament runner-up Cincinnati (+38, 902).

Along with the team title, freshman Meghan MacLaren (Cambridge, U.K.) won individual medalist honors hitting a spectacular two-under (70) on the final day to record a one-over (217) over the 54 holes. MacLaren, the Sun Belt Conference' Women's Golfer of the Month for October, was arguably the most consistent performer of the tournament with back-to-back 71 (-1) and 70 (-2) over the final 36 holes.  The title was MacLaren's second in three tournaments so far during her young collegiate career, also winning the
2012 Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor during her FIU debut in September.

FIU has now won individual medalist honors 12 times in the history of the "Pat Bradley". A school has swept both the team and individual titles in the same year 12 times in 35
tournaments and was FIU's seventh time accomplishing the sweeping feat.

Daytona State's So Young Hwang used a final day 69 (-3) to surge into second-place with a three-day total of 219 (+3). She was followed by Bradley's Danielle Lemek and Cincinnati's Olivia Dose, who each shot 220 (+4) to tie for fourth. Fifth place was a tie featuring two Panthers, senior Tania Tare (Auckland, New Zealand) and junior Shelby
Coyle (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), along with Boston College's Cristina McQuiston.  The three rounded out the top five with scores of 222 (+6).

Coyle, last year's FIU Pat Bradley Invitational medalist, made the biggest leap on the final round hitting two-under (70) on Tuesday to move down from 15th place after the second round.

Freshman Sophie Godley (Nottinghamshire, U.K.), who had been in second after the first and second rounds, shot a 79 on the final day to finish tied for ninth-place at eight-over (224). Senior Yolecci Jimenez (Caracas, Venezuela), who finished in a tie for 11th at nine-over (225), jumped from 22nd place after the second round hitting an impressive one-under (71) on the final day.

In her first collegiate tournament, Jasmine Wade (Palm Harbor, Fla.), competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 28th at 16-over (232). Freshman Carla Jane (Santiago, Chile) rounded out FIU scoring in a tie for 41st (+21, 237).

FIU next travels to the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Oct. 30-31, hosted by the University of Hawaii, on the island of Oahu.
