Panthers Bury Owls, 5-0

Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. (Oct. 30, 2012) – The FIU men's soccer team had an offensive explosion Tuesday night, scoring five goals in a 5-0 shutout victory against the Florida Atlantic Owls in Boca Raton, Fla.

Three FIU goalkeepers; Robin Spiegel, Eric Reyes and Daniel Mion, combined for the shutout with Spiegel saving FAU's only two shots on goal. Quentin Albrecht scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season while Christopher Moffett, Colby Burdette and Nicolas Rodriguez each scored a goal.

FIU's five goals are the most scored by a Panthers squad since November, 6, 2005, when they beat East Carolina by a score of 6-0.

The Panthers didn't waste any time to get on the board when Moffett controlled a loose ball in front of the goal in the sixth minute and blasted a shot past the FAU keeper for the first score of the game.

FIU's next two goals were scored rapid fire at the 31:17 and 31:32 marks of the match. First, Rodriguez beat the keeper to the left corner after receiving passes from Jo
Dawkins and Albrecht. Fifteen seconds later, Albrecht, from the right side, centered the ball to the middle of the area and then scored his ninth goal of the season. Arnthor
Krinstinsson and Daniel Gonzalez each assisted on the goal.

Shortly after in the 34th minute, Burdette took a pass from Kristinsson and Icaro DeOliveira and then proceeded to elude the FAU (2-11-1) defender and buried the ball in the upper 90 for his sixth score of the season.

The Panthers scored three goals in the span of 2:33 in the first half. This was the fastest FIU has scored three goals since October 11, 1980 against Baltimore.

In the 68th minute, Albrecht put the icing on the cake when he took a ball off of a deflection and chipped it up and over the keeper for his second goal of the game and 10th of
the season. Albrecht's 10 goals and 22 points in 2012 are the most by a Panther since Matias Asorey netted 13 goals and tallied 29 points in 2002.

In all, the Panthers had 12 shots on goal to FIU's two and led 3-0 in the corner kicks department. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Mion and newcomer Jhorvid Ramirez each saw live game action for the first time in their collegiate careers while senior Jhonander Camargo played 21 minutes, his first action of the 2012 season.

FIU (8-7-2, 0-5-1 CUSA) will close out the season on Saturday, Nov. 3, against Tulsa on senior day. Seniors Anthony Hobbs, Jo Dawkins, Lucas Di Croce, Chris Lamarre, Jhonander Camargo and Sebastian Frings will each be honored in a pregame ceremony. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
