Panthers Drop 3-0 Decision to Arizona State

Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. (Sept. 16, 2012) – The FIU women's soccer team fell to the Arizona State Sun Devils, 3-0, during the team's final game of the Loews Ventana Canyon Cats Classic in Tucson, Ariz., on Sunday afternoon.

Arizona State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute on a goal by Miah Mollay. The Sun Devils added a score in 58th minute when Devin Marshall found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season. ASU scored the final goal of the contest in 67th minute when Holland Cook scored her second goal of the season on an assist from Marshall.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Savage was saddled with the loss, registering six saves in 90 minutes of action.

Junior Chelsea Leiva led all Panthers, offensively, with three shots (two on goal). The Royal Palm Beach, Fla., native put pressure on the Sun Devil defense early, striking a shot on net in the eighth minute, forcing a Sun Devil defender to get in the way of the shot as goalkeeper Chandler Morris was out of position.  Sophomore forward Ashleigh Shim nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 23rd minute with a shot on goal. However, Morris was in position to make the save. In the 78th minute, Leiva looked to get the Panthers on
the board, but her shot on net was again saved by Morris.

The Sun Devils held a 16-6 edge in total shots as ASU struck the ball on frame nine times to FIU's three.

The loss drops the Panthers to 3-4-1 on the year, while Arizona State improves to 4-4-1.
