Box Score MIAMI (Nov. 8, 2013) – The FIU men's soccer team (6-10-1, 2-6-1 C-USA) closed out the 2013 campaign with a physically-taxing game, falling to the Charlotte 49ers, 3-0, from the FIU Soccer Stadium in Miami, Fla.
After surrendering two goals early in the contest, FIU pieced together a nice scoring set at the 25-minute mark. Senior
Icaro DeOliveira split the defenders at the top of the box and chipped the ball at net, which was saved by the Charlotte keeper. DeOliveira finished the half leading the team in shots (2), both of which were on goal.
The Panthers nearly struck seven minutes later when junior
Roberto Alterio carried the ball down the right wing, towards the end-line, and crossed it to freshman
Marvin Hezel. From the left side of the box, Hezel controlled the pass and fired the ball at net, but it was saved.
Charlotte put one more goal on the board before half, as Kyle Parker recorded his second of the game, his team-best 11th goal.
FIU had its best look in the 87th minute when sophomore
Daniel Gonzalez fired a shot from just outside the box straight towards the net. The match ended with FIU recording seven shots, four of which were on target. Hezel and DeOliveira tied for a team-high, two shots.
