Panthers Sweep UConn and Binghamton, 3-2, 4-3, on Day Two of Felsberg Memorial

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI (Feb. 16, 2013) – The Panthers (4-5) needed two late, come-from-behind performances to beat UConn, 3-2, and Binghamton, 4-3, on the second day of the 2013 Blue/Gold Felsberg Memorial at the FIU Softball Complex.

After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning against UConn, Aleima Lopez tripled home Amber Curry, who led off with a walk, evening the game at 1-1.

FIU gave that run back to the Huskies in the third inning, but managed to rally in the bottom half of the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Alex Casals reached base on a two-out bunt single and Kelli Wickerman walked and was pulled in favor of Marisa McGregor. Krystal Garcia doubled past the third baseman, plating Casals to tie the game at 2-2.

Two batters later, Jessy Alfonso reached base on an error by the third baseman, scoring McGregor, making it 3-2, in favor of the Panthers.
Shelbie Wagnon (1-0) earned her first victory as a Panther, relieving Mariah Dawson in third inning. Wagnon threw the final five innings, allowing one hit and one walk, while fanning six Huskies.

In the second game, FIU jumped in front 2-0 in the fourth inning. Binghamton cut the lead in half in the sixth on a double by Tiffany McIntosh, plating Jessica Bump.
Binghamton took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the frame, Garcia singled and later scored on a fielding error by the first baseman.

FIU ended the game in the bottom of the eighth, thanks to a one-out single by Curry that was botched by the centerfielder, allowing Brie Rojas to score from second base.
Wagnon (2-0) earned her second victory of the day. She lasted the final 1 2/3 innings after Head Coach Jake Schumann pulled starter, Corinne Jenkins (6 1/3 innings, six hits, three runs, two strikeouts).

FIU will close out the Blue/Gold Felsberg Memorial on Sunday, Feb. 17, in a doubleheader with Morehead State at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
