Box Score Florida Atlantic shut out FIU, 6-0, Friday night at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton. The Panthers and the Owls opened Sun Belt Conference play in 2013 for the final time for both teams. FIU and FAU both move into Conference USA next season.
The Owls (12-7, 1-0 Sun Belt) had a three-run first inning, added a run in the fourth and two runs in the eighth inning to complete their scoring.
FIU left-handed starter
Tyler Alexander (1-3) went six innings, allowed five hits and four runs. Freshman
Alex Seibold pitched the final two innings.
FAU left-hander Austin Gomber pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings and was relieved by Kevin Alexander, who went the rest of the way.
The Panthers (10-9, 0-1 SBC) had eight hits.
Julius Gaines and
Edwin Rios each had two hits for FIU.
