Panthers Fall to Stetson, 16-3

Box Score DELAND, Fla. -- Stetson scored in the first three innings of Wednesday evening's mid-week game with FIU (7-6) en route to a 16-3 win at Melching Field in DeLand.

The Hatters scored five runs off FIU starting pitcher Alex Seibold (0-1) and three runs off Dillon Maya to build an 8-3 lead. The Hatters scored two runs in the first inning and three runs in both the second and third innings. Stetson had 10 hits in the first three innings -- nine of the hits were singles.

FIU scored its runs in the first and second innings. T.J. Shantz came around to score on an error after he walked in the first inning. Shantz then had an RBI single in the second inning to plate the third FIU run. The Panthers scored their second run when Oscar Aguirre, who walked to leadoff the second inning, scored on a double play ground ball.

The Panthers return home to the FIU Baseball Stadium to open a three-game series against No. 19 Rice beginning Friday. The first pitch for series opener is at 6 p.m. on Friday evening.
