Panthers fall to Hilltoppers, 5-0

Box Score MIAMI (April 28, 2013) – In the final game of the weekend series, the FIU Panthers (27-24, 10-11 SBC) dropped a 5-0 decision to the WKU Hilltoppers (35-14, 18-3 SBC) on Sunday at the FIU Softball Complex.

WKU jumped in front, 1-0 in the second inning on an RBI single by Shawna Sadler.

An inning later the Hilltoppers broke the game open, scoring three times thanks to a two-run home run by Ciara Garcia and a sacrifice fly by Sadler later in the inning to make it 4-0.

WKU's final run came in the top of the fourth after a throwing error by Kayla Burri with two outs allowed Karavin Dew to score.

Four FIU's pitchers saw action this afternoon. Mariah Dawson (5-14) started the game, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out four in two innings of work. Shelbie Wagnon, Shelby Graves and Corinne Jenkins completed the final five innings.

The Panthers will next host FAU on Friday, May 3. Game time is set for 6 p.m. ET. The Panthers will recognize their five seniors who will be playing in the final home contest of their FIU careers.
