Shelby Coyle Finishes Sixth at the web.com Intercollegiate to Lead FIU

MIAMI, FLA. (FIUSports.com) – FIU junior Shelby Coyle (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) closed out the final round of the web.com Intercollegiate tying for sixth place in the standings, as FIU finished in sixth place overall among the 20 schools competing. The spring semester concluding event, hosted by Jacksonville University, was being held at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Coyle hit a one-over (73) on the final day which gave her a three-round total of 216 [72-71-73] (even par) for the tournament. The score was her top mark on the entire 2012-13 season. Purdue's 34th-ranked Paula Reto defeated Texas Tech's Gabrielle Dominguez in a playoff to win individual medalist honors after both players finished the event tied at four-under (212).

No. 14 Purdue won the event with a three-round 857 (seven-under), eight strokes ahead of No. 28 Iowa State (+1, 865). No. 17 Texas Tech (+5, 869), No. 47 Florida State (+22, 886) and No. 41 UCF (+23, 887) rounded out the top five. FIU came in sixth with a three-round total of 888 (+24).

FIU's 888 was it third-best team score on the 2012-13 season. The 294 the team hit in the first round tied for its second-lowest round on the year.
The next highest placing FIU player was freshman Meghan MacLaren (Cambridge, United Kingdom), who tied for 22nd with a three-round total of 221 [77-73-71] (+5). MacLaren
began the final round tied for 40th, but hit a one-under (71) on Tuesday to surge upward in the standings.

Senior Yolecci Jimenez (Caracas, Venezuela) was third for FIU at 10-over (74-74-78-226) to place in a tie for 43rd. Freshman Sophie Godley (Nottinghamshire, U.K.) tied for 56th with a 12-over, 228 (74-79-75). Senior Tania Tare (Auckland, New Zealand) was forced to withdraw from the tournament with injury prior to the second round.

Freshman Jasmine Wade (Oldsmar, Florida), competing as an individual, tied for 95th at 25-over (78-80-83-241).

Jacksonville University served as the host team, partnering with East Carolina and UCF.
Following the web.com Intercollegiate is the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Championships, April 15-17, held at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals course in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

The 20 schools competing in the web.com Intercollegiate played 54 holes of stroke play over two days on a par-72, 6,056-yard course.

In addition to host-school Jacksonville and FIU, the 20-team field featured Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Daytona State, East Carolina, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Michigan, North Florida, Purdue, Sam Houston State, Stetson, Texas Tech and UCF.

The tournament field at the web.com Intercollegiate was a very competitive one, with 12 programs ranked in the top 100, six in the top 50 and two in the top 20.
In order of the top 100 national rankings: Purdue (No. 14 Golf World/WGCA & Golf Stat), Texas Tech (No. 15 Golf World/WGCA), Iowa State (No. 28 Golf Stat), UCF (No. 41 Golf Stat), Florida State (No. 43 Golf Week), East Carolina (No. 44 Golf Stat), FIU (No. 51 Golf Week & Golf Stat), Maryland (No. 59 Golf Week), Chattanooga (No. 71 Golf
Week), Kennesaw State (No. 83 Golf Week), Michigan (No. 89 Golf Stat) and James Madison (No. 95 Golf Week). Additionally, Daytona State is the No. 1-ranked NJCAA
program in the nation.
