Box Score

MIAMI (Sept. 13, 2013) – The FIU women's soccer team (2-4-0) dropped a tough decision Friday night against Dayton (3-4-0) by a score of 4-0.

Redshirt junior Paula Zuluaga stopped the first eight shots she faced in just her third career start in net. The Panthers battled most of the night within their own zone, with Dayton notching 25 total shots. FIU was active offensively, too, setting off 11 shots, six of which came in the first half.

In the first 45 minutes, the two teams battled coast-to-coast frequently, setting off 19 shots between the two squads. Dayton would notch the game's first goal in the 35th minute when Ashley Campbell sent a ball down the line and connected with Juliana Libertin, who then juked past an FIU defender for the shot past Zulaga.

Five minutes later,  Libertain would be involved again when she redirected a corner kick in the direction of teammate Meghan Black, who headed the ball for a 2-0 Flyers lead.

Dayton would score two more times in the 84th and 90th minute for the 4-0 final.

Junior Ashleigh Shim continued her offensive dominance, setting off five shots, three of which were on goal. Six other Panthers contributed to the effort, including senior Kim Lopez, junior Johanna Volz, junior Caroline Hernandez, senior Nicole DiPerna, freshman Talia McMurtrie and redshirt freshman Shelby Bowden.

The Panthers next travel to Illinois where they will face the Fighting Illini on Sunday at 1 p.m.
