No. 29 @FIUBaseball Travels to UAB for Key Weekend Series

MIAMI (March 27, 2014) – The FIU baseball team (21-4, 6-3) is set to kick off a three-game series at UAB this weekend. The Blazers enter this weekend's series with a 4-2 record in conference action, two games behind FIU.
 
Scouting UAB
- The Blazers enter this weekend with a 17-8 overall record and a 4-2 mark in Conference USA action.
- UAB is a tough team to beat at home, carriying an 11-3 record.
- Chase Davis leads the way for the Blazers on the offensive end, batting at a .333 clip with nine extra base hits and 15 RBI.
- The three starting pitchers that UAB will throw this weekend, Chase Mallard, Alex Luna and Johnny lieske, each post an ERA of 1.62 or lower.
Series History with the Blazers
- This will be the first ever matchup between FIU and UAB.
 
Best Starts in School History
- Through 25 games, the 2014 Panthers are tied for the second best start in program history. The 1999 team holds the best start through 25 games, going 23-2. Along with this year's squad, the 1995 and 2002 teams each started 21-4.
- The Panthers' 26th game will come on Friday. A victory would put them at 22-4, joining them with the 1995 team for the second best start through 26 games. The 1999 squad started 23-2.
 
Putting up Zeroes
- Through the first 25 games, Panther pitchers have been dominant, posting nine shutouts.
- The nine shutouts for FIU already is tied for second in program history, with the season not even half over yet.
- The 1989 staff hurled nine shutouts. The 1995 squad holds the record with 16.
- Below is a list of the most shutouts for FIU teams in a single season.
   1) 1995 - 16 shutouts
   2) 2014 – 9 shutouts
       1987 – 9 shutouts
   3) 2003 – 7 shutouts
       1982 – 7 shutouts
       1979 – 7 shutouts

Season tickets for the FIU baseball season are on sale. Tickets for the 2014 campaign cost just $50 per ticket for all fans this year. Fans can purchase tickets online, over the phone by calling 305-FIU-GAME, or in person at the R. Kirk Landon Fieldhouse Box Office. Student admission is free to all FIU baseball home games.
