Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 29, 2014) – The FIU baseball team (21-6, 6-5) dropped its second-straight 1-0 contest at UAB on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers were held to six hits on the day and surrendered a third inning run to the Blazers.
Freshman
Cody Crouse gave the Panthers a solid outing on the mound, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and striking out four. Freshman
Brandon Gomez led the Panthers with two hits on the day.
UAB's lone run came in the third inning with one out and a runner on third. Adam Smith provided the RBI single through the right side of the infield to give the Blazers the only run they needed.
FIU left six runners on base in the game, including two in the ninth inning. The Panthers got the leadoff batter on via a walk and had two players on with two outs, but came up empty handed.
The Panthers are back in action at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday. Freshman
Chris Mourelle will start for the Panthers.
