@FIUBaseball Takes Two from Saint Peter’s

Box Score MIAMI (April 26, 2014) – The FIU baseball team (30-12) earned a two-game sweep over Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon at the FIU Baseball Stadium. The Panthers took the first game, 2-0, followed by a 6-2 victory in game two.

Freshman Cody Crouse threw 6 2/3 innings of scoreless ball to improve his record to 4-2 and drop his ERA to 1.22. Junior Aramis Garcia led the Panthers with two hits in the victory. Senior Mike Gomez picked up his 23rd career save, tying him with Ozzie Lugo (2000-01) for the most saves in program history. The FIU pitching staff recorded their 13th shutout of the season, which extends their Conference USA single-season shutouts record.

FIU manufactured its first run with two outs and nobody on in the fourth. Junior Julius Gaines singled to center, followed by a walk to freshman Brandon Gomez. Freshman J.C. Escarra came up with a clutch RBI single through the right side of the infield to give FIU a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers added an insurance run in the seventh, as senior Tyler Hibbert scored on an errant throw off a stolen base, upping FIU's lead to 2-0.

Charlie Cormier, Mitchell Davis and Gomez followed Crouse to complete the shutout. Gomez pitched two innings to record his sixth save of the season and 23rd of his FIU career.
