Panthers Fall to Tulane on Walk-off in the Ninth, 2-1

Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. (May 17, 2014) – For the second-straight day, FIU (36-18, 16-14) fell to Tulane, 2-1, on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth on Saturday. With the loss, FIU will take on Rice at 1:30 ET on Wednesday in the Conference USA Tournament.

Panther pitching opened the game retiring the first 14 Tulane batters. Senior Albert Cardenas earned the start on the mound for FIU and was perfect, going three innings, not allowing a base runner and striking out four.
Junior Aramis Garcia went 1-for-2 in his return to the lineup with a walk and hit-by-pitch.

FIU struck first in the top of the third. Freshman J.C. Escarra, who went 2-for-3, led things off with a single and advanced to second on an errant throw from the outfield. Senior Tyler Hibbert next reached on a bunt single, moving Escarra over to third. Junior Julius Gaines grounded into a double play, but Escarra scored to give FIU a 1-0 lead.

Tulane's Jake Willsey singled with two outs in the fifth inning off Williams Durruthy, driving in Jake Rogers to tie the game up at one.
Hunter Hope drove in the game winning run for Tulane in the bottom of the ninth.
