MIAMI (Jan. 11, 2015)
–  The women's basketball team fell to UAB, 68-45, Sunday afternoon from Lime Court at FIU Arena. With the loss, the Panthers sit at 3-11 overall and 0-3 in Conference USA play on the season.

FIU junior guard Destini Feagin led all Panther scorers with 12 points. Senior forward Marita Davydova also scored double-digits, contributing 11. Davydova also led the effort on the boards for FIU with 11 to record her fifth double-double of the season.

For the game, UAB shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54), while FIU was 31.7 percent (20-of-63) from the floor. The Blazers narrowly outrebounded the Panthers, 38-35, but UAB had 18 points from the bench while FIU only had eight.

Both teams got off to a sleepy start over the first two minutes of play, but things slowly heated up as they both hit three of their next three shots over the next four minutes. Three consecutive Blazer threes sparked a 15-4 run at the 12:41 mark in the first. The Panthers were held to only one field goal and over four minutes until a Tynia McKinzie layup ended the dry spell. With 7:31 remaining in the opening half, UAB continued its offensive tear as it embarked on a 13-4 run and headed into the locker room with a 39-21 lead.

The Blazers picked up right where they left off coming out of the break scoring the first basket of the second to take a 20-point lead. FIU responded with a 4-0 run; however, the Panthers had no answer for the Blazer offensive attack as they would pull ahead by as many as 25 with 6:09 remaining.  FIU pulled back within 14, but it would be too little too late as FIU fell 68-45.

Next up, the Panthers hit the road on Thursday, Jan. 15, traveling to Huntington W.Va., to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd. Tipoff for the conference contest is set for 6 p.m. ET.
