@FIUMensSoccer Drop a 2-0 Rainy Contest Against South Carolina

COLUMBIA (Oct. 27, 2015) – The FIU men's soccer team (9-5, 3-3 in C-USA) fell to the South Carolina Gamecocks (8-4-2, 5-0-1 in C-USA) Tuesday night, 2-0, during a stormy weekday matchup.

Stone Stadium saw the first goal of the night in the 38th minute by the Gamecocks' Danny Deakin. After a controversial handball call on junior Marvin Hezel, Deakin's shot off a penalty kick was deflected by goalie Arthur Clapot. The backspin on the ball rolled into the Panther net, setting the score at 1-0.

At the end of the first half, FIU outshot USC 10-4. The Panthers reached the Gamecock box four times, but struggled to find their footing for a successful shot.
In the 65th minute, junior Jamar Campion-Hinds sent a powerful strike to the left side of the post to just miss the goal.

The match saw its second goal in the 82nd minute by the Gamecocks Kevin Walker. Elbow-to-elbow with Hezel, Walker gained just enough of a lead to take a shot to the bottom, right shelf of the net, finalizing the score 2-0.

The Panthers, losing their momentum from the first half, were outshot by the Gamecocks 6-4 in the final 45.

FIU will return to action this Saturday as they host New Mexico for its last home-match of the season. This weekend's contest will also honor five Panther seniors: A.J. Sibiski, Daniel Gonzalez, Juan Pablo Fallas, Robin Spiegel and Patrick Lopez. The match is set for 7 p.m. For ticket information, call 305-FIU-GAME or log onto www.FIUSports.com
