@FIUBaseball Begins C-USA Championship Play Tomorrow versus Rice

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (May 19, 2015) –The FIU baseball team (25-29, 13-17 C-USA) will begin its quest for the 2015 Conference USA title on Wednesday, May 20, with a first-round contest versus the Rice Owls (35-18, 22-8 C-USA) in Game No. 2 of the C-USA Baseball Championships from Hattiesburg, Miss. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. ET from Pete Taylor Park.
   
The Panthers earned the No. 8 seed in the tournament after defeating the Owls last Thursday with an 11-1 victory at Reckling Park. Rice claimed the No. 1 seed after Southern Miss swept Middle Tennessee over the past weekend.
 
The winner of the contest will take on the winner of the No. 5 UTSA and No. 4 Middle Tennessee contest that starts at 10 a.m. ET tomorrow.
 
Sophomore Chris Mourelle (6-7, 3.31 ERA) is slated to take the mound for the Panthers and is scheduled to face Rice's Jordan Stephens (6-4, 2.94 ERA).

FIU is hitting .273 as a team with 41 home runs and 281 RBI. The FIU pitching staff comes into Wednesday's game with a 3.94 ERA with 390 strikeouts in 475 innings pitched.
