ATLANTA (Feb. 20, 2016) – The FIU women's tennis team (5-1) downed the George Washington Colonials, 7-0, on Saturday morning to earn the team's fourth-straight win.
The win improved FIU to 5-0 away from the FIU Tennis Courts and moved the Panthers' record all-time versus the Colonials to 2-0. FIU's first win over GW was a 7-0 victory during the 2006 season.
With the 5-1 mark, FIU is off to its best start since the 2001 season. That year, the Panthers finished 23-3 with a final ITA ranking of No. 24.
The Panthers earned the first point of the day with a pair of doubles wins as freshman

Nina Nagode defeated Allison Hansen and Taylor Nederlander, 6-2. The win was the fifth-straight for Veksler and Nagode who are 10-3 as a duo on the year. Senior

Andrea Lazaro pick up their fourth-straight win with a 6-3 decision over Sara Grubac and Marie-Louise Decamps.
The Panthers followed their doubles performance with six-straight singles points, powering past GW for the 7-0 sweep. Veksler, who was down 8-4 in the third-set tie-breaker, battled back for a 7-5, 1-6, 10-8 win over Teodora Radosavljevic. The win improved Veksler to 20-4 on the year (5-0 in dual matches at the No. 1 spot). Nagode claimed her 15
th win of the season, defeating Lana Robins, 6-2, 2-2 (ret.). Orlando topped Grubac 6-1, 6-3, while Lazaro defeated Decamps, 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore
Nerma Caluk increased her win total to 17 this season with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Nederlander and senior
Kaitlin Brozovich picked up a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Victoria Krogan.
It was the third 7-0 sweep of an opponent this season and fourth shutout by the Panthers in 2016.
FIU returns home to face Eastern Michigan on Friday, Feb. 26. First serve from the FIU Tennis Courts is scheduled for 1 p.m.
