MIAMI (March 7, 2016) – FIU men's basketball standout
Adrian Diaz has been named to the All-Conference USA Second Team, as announced by the league office Monday.
Diaz, a 6-foot-11 senior forward from Miami, is currently third on the team in scoring, averaging 15.3 points-per-game, and leads the team in field goal percentage (65.2 percent, 176-0f-270), rebounding (7.7 rebounds-per-game) and blocked shots (2.9). Diaz is also 11
th in C-USA in scoring, first in field goal percentage, tied for sixth in rebounding, and second in blocked shots.
The "Hialeah Hamer" as he is affectionately known, has scored in double figures in 27 of the 31 games he has played in this season, and has netted 20-or-more points five times, including a season-high 24 points against Stetson on Nov. 30. He also tallied 23 points, twice, against Florida Atlantic on Jan. 3 and North Texas on Feb. 18.
Diaz has also recorded eight double-doubles on the year.
Coming into this week's C-USA Tournament in Birmingham, Diaz boasts 903 career points while in a Panthers' uniform, which is 11
th on FIU's career scoring list. For his collegiate career – Diaz transferred to FIU after his sophomore year at Kansas State – he has scored 1,047 points.
Additionally, Diaz is FIU's all-time leader in blocked shots with 190 (205 for his career) and is sixth on the school's career rebounding list with 468 (563 for his career).
The Panthers come into this week's C-USA tournament as the No. 11 seed and will face No. 6 seed UTEP on Wednesday, March 9 at 9:30 p.m. (ET) in the second round. The winner will take on No. 3 seed Marshall on March 10 at 9:30 p.m.
All Conference USA Championship first round, second round and quarterfinal games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, will be televised live on the American Sports Network (ASN) and streamed on the ASN website. In addition, both of Friday's semifinal games (3/5:30 p.m.) will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network, while the championship game can be seen live nationally on Fox Sports 1 (FS1) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
