FIU (2-1-1) begins the first of four matches that it will play in its next five matches when it takes the pitch against the Ospreys. The Panthers are coming off a tough 0-0 double overtime draw against Niagara on Sept. 4 at FIU Soccer Stadium. FIU outplayed the Purple Eagles outshooting Niagara a staggering 20-2 and held a commanding advantage in corner kicks, 14-2, however, despite several opportunities to put the ball in the back of the goal, the Panthers could never find a way to convert. Prior to its meeting with the Purple Eagles, FIU won two-straight against the College of Charleston (3-1) on Aug. 28 and Wisconsin (1-0) on Sept. 2.
UNF (2-0-1) comes into Friday's match with its own three-match unbeaten streak, following its 3-2 victory at North Carolina State on Sept. 4. The Ospreys began the 2016 season with a convincing 3-0 win over Winthrop at home on Aug. 26, followed up with a 2-2 draw against UNCG on Aug. 28.
North Florida and FIU will meet for the fourth time on Friday with the Panthers holding a 2-1 all-time lead in the series. FIU won the first two matches, both by 2-1 decisions, on Sept. 16, 2011 and Aug. 31, 2012. The Ospreys lone win in the all-time series was a 1-0 triumph on Sept. 20, 2013.
Friday's match is the first of four that FIU will play on the road in the next five matches. Included among the five-match stretch are three-consecutive outings against teams ranked in the Top 25: at home against No. 16 Kentucky, in the Conference USA opener for both schools, on Sept. 17 (7 p.m.), at No. 21 Wake Forest on Sept. 20 (7 p.m.), and at No. 9 Charlotte on Sept. 24 (7 p.m.). The Panthers will close out the stretch at New Mexico on Sept. 30 (9 p.m. ET).
