Black & Gold Shootout – Day Three

The Basics
- The FIU men's basketball team closed out the 2017 Black & Gold Shootout in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with a 77-67 win over Concordia-St. Paul (CSP) on Sunday afternoon at the UWM Panther Arena. The Panthers improve to 2-3 on the year, while CSP moves to 1-3.

- Trejon Jacob (Raleigh, North Carolina) led the Panthers with a career-high 23 points, including 16 in the first half. Michael Douglas (Sachse, Texas) added a career-high 16 points.

- FIU never trailed during the first 20 minutes of action, but only led by as many as six points, 15-9, during the first eight minutes. The Panthers eventually extended its lead to double figures, using a 12-2 run in just over a four-minute stretch, to take an 11-point edge, 29-18, on a three-point shot by Michael Douglas with 7:33 left in the half. FIU extended the lead to 13 points when Eric Lockett (Warner Robins, Georgia) hit the first of two free-throw attempts with 1:31 left.

- Concordia-St. Paul didn't go away in the second half, cutting the FIU lead to as few as six points several times, the last coming with 12:31 left in the game. The Panthers, however, got the lead back to double figures on three-straight field goals on consecutive possessions by Ronald Whitaker (Washington, D.C.), the second coming from behind the three-point arc, to make the score 62-46 with 9:42 left. That was FIU's biggest lead of the game. The Golden Bears did not threaten the rest of the way.

- FIU finished the game shooting 45.5 percent (25-for-55) from the field and 37.5 percent (9-for-24) from behind the three-point arc.

The Turning Point
With Concordia-St. Paul looking to make a second-half run, Ronald Whitaker scored seven of his career-high nine points on three consecutive possessions to open the game up midway through the second half.
