Divers Sweep Day One of Dual-A-Pool-Ooza

Gouda, Haskell and Foord impress from the 3-meter springboard

DENVER, Colorado (Oct. 19, 2018) – FIU's divers opened up day one of Dual-A-Pool-Ooza with a 13 point advantage over the University of Denver.

Bolstered by a complete sweep from the springboard, freshman Maha Gouda, sophomore Rachel Foord and redshirt junior Brittany Haskell impressed from the 3-meter today.

"I am happy with the results today. The divers are showing consistency in the corrections and improvement," said diving head coach Rio Ramirez.

Freshman standout, Gouda dominated the 3-meter and ended the day with a score of 308.05. First, second and third place in the event were all acquired by Panthers, which put them in a early 16-3 lead over the Pioneers.

In the lanes, the swimmers captured 4 of 11 events. Opening up the evening with a time of 3:52.52 in the 400 Medley Relay tallying four points to Denver's 13.

Stephanie Hussey registered a first-place finish in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:38.77, coming in 7.49 seconds quicker than Denver's Andi Johnston.

After, Freshman Helga Fodor picked up a second-place finish in the 100 Freestyle, senior captain Naomi Ruele recorded FIU's third victory in the 50 Backstroke with a time of 25.95. Sophomore Sara Gyertynaffy, tallied another Panther victory in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:08.10.

Hussey continued to be a force for the Panthers. She picked up the fourth win of the evening in the 500 Freestyle when she outperformed the competition and completed the event with a time of 5:10.13.

Unable to build on the momentum set by Ruele, Gyertynaffy and Hussey the Panthers ended the day in a 36 point deficit. The meet concluded with a loss of 94-130.
