MIAMI (Nov. 14, 2018) - Panthers swim and dive will travel North to face tough competition at the Mizzou Invite beginning Nov.15.  Hosted by the Tigers, the Invitational marks as the mid-season mark for the Panthers.

"This performance really sets us up for the rest of the season," said head coach Randy Horner, "This is where we really evaluate what we have done, where we are at and what to go back to in our second training cycle."

FIU is coming off of a victorious weekend at Indian River, the Panthers defeated the Pioneers (192-106) and Nova (161-101). Hopes are high as they head into competition with Mizzou, Arkansas, BYU, California Baptist, Drury, McKendree, Oklahoma Baptist, San Diego State, Southern Illinois, Boise State and Wyoming

It has been four years since the Panthers have made an appearance at the Mizzou Invitational. During the 2014-15 season they placed second and set record breaking numbers in addition to claiming a C-USA title, and have defended it since then.

"We are excited to go back to Mizzou and race. It is going to be a lot of fun," said Horner.

With the panthers approaching the halfway point of their 2018-19 season, several student-athletes hold top C-USA marks. Sophomore Stephanie Hussey currently owns the top time in the 500 Free (4:58.39) and holds the second-place number in the 400 IM (4:26.77). Senior Naomi Ruele claims the 100 Back title in the conference (56.72).

On the diving board, Maha Gouda has been recognized as diver of the week three different times since the season opened up. The Freshman has already broken the school record from the 3-meter (347.63) and also holds top marks in the conference from the 1-meter (310.20) and 3-meter (347.63)
